Edison Mail Launches Powerful New Subscription Insights & Timed Summary to Strengthen Inbox Clean Up

Building off its celebrated One-Tap Unsubscribe functionality, Edison’s new abilities further empower you to stop email overload

  • Edison Mail, the #1 independent email app and creators of one-tap unsubscribe functionality, is dedicated to providing you with relief from the overwhelming problem of email overload.

  • The app’s new Subscriptions Assistant provides helpful insights into the value each of your subscriptions actually offers you in an easy to understand scoreboard.

  • A new timed Summary feature also reduces notification fatigue by allowing you to schedule multiple email subscriptions to be delivered in a simple digest at a time that works for you.

  • The new features are available immediately in the app on iOS and on Android.

It’s 2022 and email overload is not getting better. Research indicates the average office worker receives 121 emails per day, and more research shows that as much as 85% of all emails sent are spam. Our own 2022 State of Communication study revealed more than half of Americans say they are still suffering from receiving too many emails, and almost 70% said that notifications and messages interfere with their productivity.

How did we get here? The first email marketing blast — considered the first spam message — was sent back in 1978, but things really started to pick up around 1996 after Hotmail’s email service went live and was made available to marketers, creating an ongoing explosion of outbound email.

When Edison Mail launched in 2016, we shared with the world our flagship feature: one-tap unsubscribe from junk. The relief of having a properly cleaned out and efficient inbox felt game changing. Over the years we’ve added more abilities to enhance your power to clean out your inbox — from Block Sender to improved spam blocking, and even our Edison Mail+ email security subscription.

But we know there’s more work to be done.

This is why we’re proud to introduce a brand new set of smart features to empower you further in stopping email overload — our newly improved Subscriptions Assistant.

A Smarter Subscriptions Assistant Offers Personalized Email Insights

Our new Subscriptions Assistant offers an intuitive personalized scorecard of your most and least opened email subscriptions, so you are more informed about which emails are truly bringing value to your inbox vs. those just taking up space.

In the app, simply tap on Subscriptions in your Assistant Menu to find three tabs — Subscribed, Unsubscribed, and Summary. We’ve redesigned our flagship Subscribed and Unsubscribed categories to be smarter and added the new Summary tab to create a weekly or daily digest of newsletters (more on that to come below).

From your Subscriptions tab you can easily one-tap unsubscribe or add to Summary but there’s an additional fun detail. You’ll notice that each newsletter you’re subscribed to now has a percentage to its right. This number is that newsletter’s open rate, which shows you exactly what percentage of sent newsletters you open, allowing you to more intelligently unsubscribe from mail you no longer read.

From your Unsubscribed tab you’re able to view all the subscriptions you’ve decided to edit out of your life. It also gives you the option to resubscribe to different newsletters with a single tap just in case you changed your mind.

You can further personalize your Subscriptions tab view by tapping on the Filter Icon next to Search to view your subscriptions by connected account. Choose to sort all your subscriptions alphabetically, by open rate, or even by the number of emails you’ve received — customizing the exact view you want when you want.

Helpful details appear when you simply tap on one of your subscriptions — like the number of emails you’ve received from that sender, the percentage of messages you’ve opened, and how many you received in the last week alone. We also give you the ability to unsubscribe, mass delete, and add to Summary — all with a single tap.

A Time-Saving Subscription Summary Roll-Up Delivers Email When You Want It

Most of the email subscriptions taking up space in your inbox are likely messages you’re interested in keeping around but aren’t necessarily interested in a notification for every entry. This is where your timed Summary can really help. Summary offers you a simple digest of email subscriptions that you can schedule to arrive in your inbox all together on a daily or weekly basis at a time you choose. It’s fully customizable and reduces the stress of constant notifications. The subscriptions you add to your Summary won’t hit your inbox like they normally do, instead they’ll be held aside to be sent to you all at once in a digest separate from your usual inbox.

There are a few easy ways you can add subscriptions to your Summary. The first two ways are via your Subscriptions tab. Simply find the email subscription you’d like added to your Summary and select “Add to Summary”. Or you can tap and hold a subscription in order to activate bulk select. Then tap on all the subscriptions you’d like to add to your Summary followed by “Add to Summary” in the bottom right.

You can also open up a subscription, select the three horizontal dots in the upper right corner and tap “Add sender to Summary”.

After you’ve added these subscriptions to your Summary comes the fun part of scheduling all your emails to a time you prefer. Once you’ve added one sender to your Summary, you’ll be shown your different scheduling options. Choose whether you want to receive your Summary daily or weekly followed by time of day. Once scheduled, all you need to do is sit back, relax, and wait for the next Summary drop.

At the scheduled time, you’ll receive a push notification about your Summary or  — if you’re already in the app — you’ll see an alert at the top of your inbox.

Once you tap on the notification, you’ll be directed to the Summary screen where you can quickly scroll through all of your scheduled messages. Once you’re done looking through them, you can delete them all with a single tap, or make your preferred quick actions.

If you ever want to see any of your Summary emails outside of the scheduled time, simply go to the Summary tab in your Subscriptions Assistant and select “Latest Summary” at the top of the screen. If you’d like to change your scheduled Summary time, select the blue bar at the top of your Summary tab.

Our new Subscriptions Assistant is the newest way our team is helping with inbox management by helping you get through your subscriptions faster than ever before.

“We are on a mission to make your inbox a less stressful place and our latest update delivers on that promise. The fatigue you feel from too many emails crowding your inbox is not getting better fast enough,” said Jeff Pearsall, Vice President of Design for Edison Mail. “Our team spent months researching more efficient ways to offer relief from email overload and we are confident that anyone who has felt the pain of cleaning out their inbox from spam everyday will appreciate and immediately benefit from our new subscription insights and timed summary functionality.”
