Our Privacy Commitments

Safeguarding your privacy is important to us at Edison. We practice privacy by design, read about it here. You trust us with your email, contacts and other important data, and that’s not something we take lightly.

 1. No ad targeting.

We are the only free mail app that does not profile you for advertising. Our company, partners and customers never track you for ad targeting or lookalike audiences based on the information we have about you. Whenever possible, we prevent other businesses from tracking you when you use our services.

2. Transparency is important.

We strive to be as clear as possible about our business practices. We are the only company offering e-commerce research (based on anonymized and aggregated data from email receipts) with all of our products and services branded under a single roof.

3. Security is paramount.

Our services are protected by one of the world’s most advanced security infrastructures. Information in our care is safeguarded by multiple layers of security, including AES 256 encryption.

4. We keep mail private.

We never share your emails, personally identifiable information, contacts or messages with third-parties, unless required by law.

5. Local storage.

We store as little of your email on our servers as possible to minimize the amount of data about you that could potentially be compromised if a breach were to occur. We have invested in complex technologies to transfer most of your mail messages between your device and your mail provider so that these messages are not in our cloud.

Any data we do collect is used for only three purposes: 1) to provide you with the best service possible, 2) to conduct research and development of new features for our users, and 3) to create aggregate, anonymized e-commerce trends.

While this page is intended to give you an overview of our approach to privacy as well as a high-level review of our data collection and usage, we would encourage you to read our entire privacy policy to learn more about the data we collect and how we use, share and protect it.

How We Use Data: An Overview

To provide our services, we collect certain personal information, including your email address, which is never shared, unless required by law. The data we collect when you connect your email account to our app allows us to provide our services like new mail notifications, shipment tracking, travel alerts and contact list management.

To keep our services free for you to use, we collect and store information from commercial messages such as promotions and receipts. We always remove any information that identifies you personally (emails, names, addresses). This data is anonymized and the only use of this data is to create aggregate research reports. We prohibit businesses from tracking, advertising or attempting to re-identify any users individually, and from using the information for any purpose other than understanding e-commerce trends. You can see and access examples of the aggregated research we develop at Edison Trends.
